BRAND HISTORY & INFORMATION

Internationally renowned, Pacific Green has a history that goes back to the early 1970s. First known as Post & Rail Furniture, the brand was established in Sydney, Australia. Led by Bruce Dowse and Peter Ryan, the duo created an iconic style of Australian furniture with an aesthetic that is boldly known for raw and natural finished, thickly oil wood, soft suede and Belgian velvet.

In the mid- 1980s, the interior design brand decided to transition the company into being a more sustainable company, one that would not contribute to the ecological threats created by mass deforestation. After careful research, travel and discovery, the team found that there were large abandoned coconut plantations throughout the South Pacific. The trees had maxed out on production, and through testing, they found that coconut palm stems weren’t just durable and hard, but also a flexible material that would allow a look and function that lends more to their designs.

It was then that they founded the first, dedicated coconut palm factory in Fiji. Pacific Green Industries becomes a benchmark brand for sustainable business practices in the whole Pacific. Surrounding villages were consulted while the factory was being built, and to respect indigenous land ownership, the land was leased, not purchased. The brand once agains transitions and becomes known as the Palmwood® brand.

Now led by Dowse and his team, the Palmwood® brand became very well known for their coconut furniture with aesthetic attributes of traditional Pacific Island arts. At this time, the brand introduced a lifestyle concept brand (living, dining & bedding) called Pure Pacific.

Without a doubt, Pacific Green Industries is a brand with a unique and honorable history. No attention to detail is spared when creating these one-of-a-kind lifestyle pieces. Elements include palm wood, leather, glass, wool, gemstones, bronze, latex and fur. All materials are sourced from sustainable operations throughout the world.

ACCOLADES:

Early 2000’s: Directors were invited to address the United Nations (Conference on Trade and Development) on sustainability and the social responsibility of manufacturers.

2010: Pacific Green was invited to participate as ambassadors in the 2010 World Fair in Shanghai.

2012: Pacific Green Ecological Heritage Park is opened by the Fijian Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama. The park showcases the lifecycle of the Coconut Palm, and how Pacific Green Industries recycles discarded stems into beautiful interior design products

Hawaii Sunset Photography https://andrewshoemakerphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/9/hawaii-sunset-photography

Honu HeavenHonu Heaven

Hawaiian Sunsets.......What can I say?

Most people can totally relate to sitting on the beach with a beverage of choice and enjoying the final moments of a beautiful day, so it's something that I really do enjoy capturing as an image. Hawaii sunset photography can really bring you right back to that moment in time. In the Hawaiian Islands, the natural color palette is something that is very unique, and I've never seen colors quite like this anywhere else in the world.

Hawaii sunsets can be very vibrant and pastel looking, yet there can be a lot of cooler blues and purples mixed in that gives it a lot of depth. The most difficult thing about photographing sunsets in Hawaii is that it happens so fast here!  The further away from the equator, the longer a sunset time period is. The fact that we are so close to the equator here in Hawaii, the best lighting can literally be about 30 seconds and then a sunset begins to fade very quickly. Due to that, it becomes very challenging to capture the perfect moment as everything must be in sync. But, that's what makes it fun right?
Kapalua's EmbraceKapalua's Embrace

Typically, I start by what I call scouting an area and taking some images before sunset to decide on the composition for the scene. Once I have decided on that, it's a matter of waiting and capturing a Hawaii sunset photograph to the best of my abilities, and of course you need to adapt to the scene as it changes. Sometimes the light is best where the composition isn’t.. that’s why it's always good to have a second composition idea in mind as a backup plan.

SolaceSolace

On average, I end up photographing a scene over three times or more before I feel that the light is right and does the sunset scene justice. In fact, there's also a few specific sunset compositions that I've just never been able to capture due to a lack of great light. But, I still continue to chase them! I try not to get too frustrated because when it all clicks, it's most certainly a thing of beauty.

Aloha, Andy S.

To see more of my Hawaii Sunset Photography, peruse my Hawaii Gallery. I have a collection of sunset images from all of the Hawaiian Islands; Maui, Oahu, Big Island, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai.
